Interlude: Chocolate Mousse Cake with Raspberries

After 4 weeks, I went to the store. I find grocery shopping quite an ordeal, usually, and I've been trying different ways of making it better. Here's one of my experiments: A treat when I get home and finish putting things away!

Wegmans has a chocolate mousse cake that's vegan. It's got a layer of vegan chocolate cake, then a layer of tofu chocolate mousse, and then a drizzle of chocolate. I'd been intending to try it, and this was, I concluded, the day I was going to pay $6 for a slice of cake after a month of basically spending nothing.

And of course, I added some fresh raspberries, because berries are one of the things that mitigates how much I detest summer.

It was delicious, but this would be hard to mess up! In fact, were I to be able to turn on my oven, I think I could make this. In fact, I'm contemplating making something like this when the weather cools off. A whole cake is $30. I could make it for way less.

Curiously, even though the cake is vegan and is labeled as such on the Wegmans website, the usual "vegan" stickers were nowhere to be found. I guess "vegan" is now more discouraging than encouraging to shoppers. It's okay. I can hold out until the trends swing back again, as they inevitably will.

I don't know whether this strategy or any of my other tricks helped more, but it wasn't a bad excursion! See you tomorrow.
