Laptop Lunches #188

Mini bell pepper strips, baby carrots, cucumber slices, and ranch dressing; ham and dilly bean bundles; chunks of kiwi and clementine; and tortilla and pumpkin cream cheese pinwheels.

We must ask ourselves:

1. Why are clementines only sold in huge bags, so that single people must choose either A) no clementines or B) too many?

2. Why do we suddenly start putting pumpkin in everything in October and don't stop until January?

Meanwhile: I still love dilly beans. I need to find a new way to use them, though. Preferably without pumpkin!

I passed and all the paperwork is done! (They give you a Ph.D. for Ability to Do Vast Quantities of Paperwork, not for Ability to Write a Dissertation and Talk about It Intelligently. It's a little known secret.) But this will still be Food for Dissertating, because I'm too worn out to think of a new name!

  1. In Sweden we have clementines both in huge bags and separately. But they are more expensive when sold separate than in bags.
Also, pumpkin is never in anything i Sweden. Ever. With an exception for the few Starbucks that we have (I think there are six in all of Sweden). But come December we put saffron and/or gingerbread spices in everything. Gingerbread latte? Oh, yes! We even have gingerbread ice-cream sandwiches! In the freezing cold winter.

    1. Very rarely, I have seen clementines here sold in packs of four, which is more sensible.

Wish I knew about the pumpkin! I could have sent you pumpkin-flavored everything.

Gingerbread ice cream sandwiches sound wonderful!

    2. Gingerbread ice cream sandwiches are pretty good, but I don't really like ice cream in the winter, it's just too cold to eat cold things. :) We also have gingerbread yoghurt… which is a little bit strange since we mostly eat yoghurt as breakfast or as a light meal in the afternoon, not as dessert.

I'm not that fond of pumpkin, so I'm happy without. :) But I am looking forward to when Starbucks starts serving Peppermint Mochas! I looooooove those! So happy that one of the six Starbucks is five minutes from my university.

  2. I agree with you about the clementines. Also grapes -- why do we have to buy them two pounds or more at a time?

    1. We don't, actually, with grapes! Grapes are sold by weight, and not put in specific-weight bags, so you can just open the bag and take out what you want. Someone gave me this tip in a bog comment a few years ago and it changed my life!

  3. What about Food for Researching? Food for Post-doc'ing? :-)

    1. You know, I think I'm attached to it now! But dissertating doesn't have to just mean writing an academic dissertation; it can also mean producing an extended piece of writing on a specific subject. So maybe I am dissertating on food here? Don't know. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
