Temari Rabbit 2-Tier Bento #111

Cucumber slices, grape tomatoes, some bell pepper strips, cracked wheat crackers, and homemade roasted red pepper hummus.

I improvised the hummus based partly on prior experience making basic hummus and my Dip It! cookbook. Dip It! suggested adding thyme--that was an excellent idea. I didn't roast my own peppers--they were from a jar--but this still tasted fresher than the stuff in the tub. I'm loving my hummus adventure. And this whole blast from the past in these old cookbooks is a lot of fun. This one is 21st century, but still edging toward vintage (2002).

  1. Nice! Any homemade hummus beats store bought stuff. I never would have thought to add in thyme.. i use thyme a lot with mushrooms and of course in soups but this sounds like a tasty combo. Veggies with hummus are like my comfort food :)

    1. I never would have thought of it on my own, either, but it works! I hope you try it sometime.

  2. Yes! Homemade hummus for the win! Your veggies look so beautiful arranged like that. I also love that you are working through older cookbooks. You are inspiring me to maybe do the same!

    1. There's something about it that I find comforting, at least. Do you have a favorite old standby cookbook?

    2. I honestly rarely use cookbooks. I tend to get ideas from YouTube or blogs and I just kind of make them my own way (usually the lazy way, ha!). I have always wanted to cook through my cookbooks, I'll have to pick some out!

    3. I felt I'd started to get into that habit and I wanted to go back to using cookbooks. I won't call it a New Year's Resolution, per se, but it is a 2019 goal of mine!

  4. Bell Peppers I LOVE as dip-pables! Especially red, yellow, and orange! YUM!
